Duplex & Studio annex – Paris Marais
In this Parisian apartment, located in a 16th-century building classified as a historical monument, significant structural work has been carried out. The primary objective was to annex a studio to the main duplex via the mezzanine. To achieve this, access was created in a load-bearing wall, and the door was concealed behind a library. The studio had a floor-to-ceiling height of less than 1.80 meters. The slab above the kitchen and the yoga room was completely dismantled, allowing for a gain of 25 cm in the annexed room on the third floor. The load-bearing wall, adjacent to the kitchen and the entrance hall, had been added recently, and its weight was increasing the load on the structure, compromising its stability. This element was demolished and rebuilt with lightweight materials.
The client acquired a 105 m² apartment on the second floor and an independent studio of 35 m² on the third floor, in a 16th-century building classified as a historical monument. Once the structural work was completed, the space was reorganized to meet the program established by the client, combining classical elements (exposed wooden structure, moldings, fireplaces, Versailles-style wooden flooring) with contemporary elements such as the staircase, the glass railing of the mezzanine, the carpentry, glazed cement in some areas, and the lighting.
